Goodwill Providing Free Tax Preparation Assistance
By Sonia Isotov
Goodwill Industries of Hawaii will be hosting VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) sites to provide free tax preparation assistance for qualified individuals at Goodwill locations throughout the state for all qualified individuals.
To qualify for free tax preparation assistance, individuals must make $50,000 or less per year and not own a home or business.
On Maui, individuals that qualify can go to the Goodwill location at 250 Alamaha Street, #N17 in Kahului. Appointments are highly recommended by calling (808) 442-8908.
Free tax preparation assistance will be available between February 4 and April 8, Mondays: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., except for holidays.
VITA is a service of the Internal Revenue Service. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals in local communities. They can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as earned income tax credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.
There is also another free option to file your taxes online. Goodwill is offering MyFreeTaxes to individuals with an adjusted gross income of less than $57,000 per year. File both your Federal and State return for free. Tax filling assistance is available for MyFreeTaxes filers, by calling 1-855-MY-TX-HELP (available Monday-Saturday, 10:00am-10:00 p.m. EST) or for 24/7 tax assistance, email [email protected].
