Maui’s Lotulelei Gets NFL Scouting Combine Invite
By Rodney S. Yap
UNLV senior linebacker John Lotulelei has been invited to participate in the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine (National Invitational Camp), which begins later this month at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The native of Kihei and graduate of Baldwin High School is the first Rebel player to receive an invite since 2010 when three UNLV standouts made the trip.
Lotulelei was named First Team All-Mountain West and UNLV Defensive Most Valuable Player for 2012. He finished with a team high 120 tackles, ranked 10th-highest in the school’s single-season history. A team captain, he turned in a career-high 19 total tackles against Nevada and grabbed his first interception against Washington State.
The former Baldwin linebacker spent two years at Merced College in Calif. before transferring to Las Vegas.
The 6-foot, 235-pounder is expected to be part of the more than 300 elite invitees to attend what has come to be known as a four-day job interview with the NFL. Top executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand to evaluate the nation’s top college football players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft.
The NFL Scouting Combine, which will again be televised by NFL Network, will be held February 20-26. For more information visit www.nflcombine.net.
