Wailuku Waterline Project To Improve Fire Protection

Crews begin work today on a waterline project in Wailuku to replace lines that are undersized.  The capital improvement project is intended to upgrade lines in order to provide sufficient fire protection for surrounding residents.

The project will affect traffic on Nani, Loke, Wailani, and Kaniela Streets with work beginning today, and concluding in October 2013.

Water officials say the contractor, Maui Kupono Builders, will notify customers when water service will be affected.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, and use caution when driving in the area. Work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday excluding holidays. During construction, traffic in the affected area may be limited to one lane only.

Work includes replacement of approximately 410 feet of waterline on Nani Street from Central Avenue to Kaniela Street; approximately 66 feet of waterline on Loke Street from Central Avenue to Wailani Street; approximately 650 feet of waterline on Wailani Street from Nani Street to Vineyard Street; and approximately 935 feet of waterline on Kaniela Street from Vineyard Street to Main Street.

Customers are asked to call the 24-hour Maui Water Department service line at 270-7633, only if a water problem occurs.
