A northwest swell will bring 12 to 18 foot surf to the north and west facing shores of certain islands through 6 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013.

The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for the north and west facing shores of Molokai and the north facing shores of Maui, with surf expected to reach advisory levels later this morning.

Forecasters say the high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.

As a precaution, beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break.
