Fire crews on Molokai helped to secure a roof back in place after a 20′ x 20′ section blew off the top of a home in Kalamaula.

The incident was reported at 11:19 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the home located in the area of Kapuaiwa or Coconut Grove.

The 400 square foot section of roof covering consisted of roof paper and asphalt covering. Fire officials say the section had blown over the west facing overhang of the home.

Authorities say fire personnel pulled the roof covering back onto the roof and secured it back into place for a temporary fix.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory, saying winds are expected to be blowing from the east at 20 to 35 mph with localized gusts over 50 mph.

At 3 p.m., the agency issued an update for Maui County saying strong and gusty winds will continue across the state through early Wednesday evening for Lanai, Maui, Kahoolawe, and exposed portions of the Big Island.
