Four Seasons Use of Wailea Beach Could Be Illegal

A lawsuit filed last week seeks to remove Four Seasons Resort Maui’s right to place beach chairs on Wailea Beach.
According to reports today in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and the Pacific Business News, the lawsuit filed by Malama Kahaki and Dana Naone HallĀ against the Four Seasons Resort Maui and Board of Land and Natural Resources seeks to invalidate an easement allowing hotel guests exclusive use of a part of Wailea Beach.
According to the reports, the easement which allows the hotel to place chairs on the beach for exclusive use by the guests was granted by the Board of Land and Natural Resources without the public’s knowledge.
The newspapers also reported thatĀ the Four Seasons declined to comment, and that a spokesperson for the state board said it does not comment on pending litigation.
