Declan McCarthy has been promoted to general manager of the Makena Beach and Golf Resort, according to a press announcement today by Shawn Sweeney, the president of The Landmark Hotels Group, the management company of the resort.

McCarthy replaces Carmine Iommazzo who has been promoted to hotel manager at the Kahala Hotel and Resort in Honolulu. McCarthy had been part of the management team at the Makena hotel for 18 years, it was noted in the statement. Under Landmark management, he took on the role as manager and was part of the oversight team that worked on the hotel’s multimillion-dollar rooms makeover in 2011-12.

Denise Hoopai has been promoted to McCarthy’s old position as hotel manager at Makena. Hoopai had previously served for five years as the front office manager at Makena and prior to that had been employed by the The Fairmont Kea Lani Maui.

Iomazzo returned to The Kahala where he had once served as director of food and beverage. He had been at the Makena resort since 2011, first as the resident manager and then as general manager. He spearheaded the repositioning and makeover of the Makena hotel under Sweeney’s leadership.
