No Tsunami After 4.2 Hawaiʻi Earthquake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi following a 4.2 preliminary magnitude earthquake reported at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013, in the deep ocean northeast of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, officials said.

The National Weather Service and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a statement saying there is no tsunami expected, however some areas may have experienced shaking.

The US Geological Survey provided information obtained from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center indicating the earthquake occurred at a depth of 4.5 miles.

The information contained in the report states that the earthquake was centered 33 miles north-northeast from Laupāhoehoe; 36 miles northeast from Paʻauilo; 37 miles north-northeast from Honomū; 48 miles north from Hilo; and 196 miles east-southeast from Honolulu.
