Today is the federal tax return deadline. A total of 28 post offices across the state, including six on Maui, are offering late collection of mail from specially marked collection boxes to accommodate last-minute filers.

Postal officials say all post offices will close at their regular times; however, tax mail drop boxes, marked with bright orange signs, are available at select locations, with final pick-up from the designated boxes at midnight tonight.

On Maui, late collections are available at Kahului, Kihei, Makawao, Pukalani, Wailuku, and the Lāhainā (Main) Post Office.

On the outer islands, late collection is available on Molokaʻi at the Kaunakakai Post Office, and on Lanaʻi at the Lanaʻi City Post Office.

According to information released by the US Postal Service, they are no longer providing “curbside service” to last-minute filers at drive-by collection boxes, due to the declining number of citizens who submit hard-copy tax returns by mail.
