MECO Gets National Honors for Solar Energy Adoption

Maui Electric Company is being recognized as a national leader in the integration and deliverance of solar renewable energy to customers.

MECO was ranked sixth in the nation in 2012 for adding new solar power on a per customer basis, according to the educational non-profit Solar Electric Power Association.

According to calculations from SEPA, MECO added 198 solar watts per customer in 2012.

Also included on the Top 10 list for utility solar integration, was Hawaiian Electric, which ranked fourth in the nation, adding 219 solar watts of capacity per customer last year.

The list is compiled to identify leaders for SEPA’s upcoming 6th Annual Utility Solar Rankings report.
