By Wendy Osher
The month of May has brought record high temperatures to Maui with the warm weather setting a record in Kahului.
The National Weather Service recorded high temperatures of 89 degrees at Kahului on three days this month.
According to NWS data, the May 1st temperature in Kahului broke the old record set in 2011, while temperatures on Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, tied old records set in 2007 and 1995 respectively.
Last month, Kahului had two record days for heat as well, with 88 degree temperatures recorded on April 11 and 12. NWS data indicates that the temperature on both days tied old records set in 2002 and 1983 respectively.
Forecasters from the National Weather Service say light and variable winds will continue over much of the state over the next several days.
Trade wind weather, forecasters say, is expected to return in the upcoming week as a high pressure system north of the islands strengthens later this week.
