One man is dead, and two other individuals were injured in a multiple vehicle crash reported at 11:11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, on the Honoapiʻilani Highway (30) in Ukumehame, police said.

Police have since identified the man as Robert Keith Adams, 66, who authorities say died at the scene.

The Honoapiʻilani Hwy (30) is now OPEN in both directions. This is following a multiple vehicle accident reported at 11:22 a.m. in Ukumehame. Motorists can expect delays as traffic resumes its normal flow.

Contra-flow has started on Honoapiʻilani Highway (Hwy. 30) after a multiple-vehicle accident reported at 11:22 a.m near the Ukumehame Firing Range.

Maui police Lt. William Juan said officers are currently alternating traffic in both directions.

Motorists can expect significant delays.

County authorities issued an update at 1:31 p.m. indicating that contra-flow on the Honoapiʻilani Highway (Hwy. 30) will begin shortly.

The Highway has been closed in both directions since 11:22 a.m. following a multiple vehicle accident near the Ukumehame Firing Range at Mile-10 of the highway.

“Initial reports state that the crash may have caused a fatality, however that has not been confirmed at this time by traffic investigators,” said Maui Communications Director Rod Antone is a media statement this afternoon.

The Honoapiʻilani Highway (Hwy. 30) remains closed in both directions following an multi-vehicle accident reported at around 11:23 a.m. near the Ukumehame Firing Range.

County authorities say they understand the accident was fatal, however we are awaiting confirmation and further details from the police department.

Both lanes of travel remain closed until further notice. There is no estimated time on when the road will be reopened.

In the interim, traffic on the Kahului side of the accident is being turned around in Māʻalaea.

Maui police have closed the Honoapiʻilani Highway (Hwy. 30) in both directions due to a traffic accident reported near the Ukumehame Firing Range.

The initial closure went into effect at around 11:30 a.m., with traffic closed in both directions.

Police say traffic on the Kahului side of the accident will be turned around in Māʻalaea.
