South Swell to Peak on Wednesday

A high surf advisory has been extended for the south facing shores of all islands as a large south southwest swell builds.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service say the swell is expected to peak on Wednesday with surf building to 5 to 8 feet this morning and 8 to 12 feet this afternoon.

The high surf advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013.

Beach goers are reminded that advisory level surf can produce strong rip currents that can make swimming difficult and dangerous.

Officials with the NWS say the public should heed advice of ocean safety officials, and that boaters should be aware of recreational surfers and body boarders who may be utilizing harbor channels to access surf areas.
