ROAD OPEN: Fire Temorarily Impacts Mokulele Traffic

The Mokulele Highway at Mehameha is now open following a fire near the animal shelter.

Police had temporarily blocked the Kahului-bound lanes due to heavy smoke that hampered visibility in the area.

Motorists are advised to avoid the Mokulele Highway due to a fire reported near the animal shelter in the area of Mehameha Loop.

The Maui Police Department issued a road closure advisory in the area just before noon on Friday, June 7, 2013, saying the smoke from the fire was affecting the Kahului bound lanes.

At around 12:09 p.m., motorists reported that they were being diverted around the scene.
