A windsurfer was rescued from waters off of Kanahā Beach Park in Kahului over the weekend, officials said.
Authorities say the 60-year-old male visitor was reported missing by his wife who said she had not seen him for about two hours.
A search for the missing man was launched at around 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013, by the Maui Fire Department’s Air-1 helicopter, and crews from the Kahului Fire Station.
Officials say the man was located at 6:35 p.m. between the Kahului Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Maui Electric power plant, where authorities say he was floating on his board with a broken mast.
The man was airlifted safely to a landing zone and his equipment brought to shore by rescue crews aboard a jet ski, officials said.
Authorities say no medical attention was required.
