By Wendy Osher
Staff of the Old Lahaina Lūʻau and Aloha Mixed Plate in West Maui will earn a special award for their recent work in helping to clean up beach debris, official said.
The gubernatorial commendation will be issued on Saturday, July 27, 2013, from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. at the company’s lūʻau grounds on Front Street.
Staff members are credited with taking initiative in helping to remove debris from three grounded vessels along the west Maui shoreline after the vessels broke free from moorings near Māla Wharf during high surf conditions in May.
In addition to the governor, others expected to be in attendance are: Stacy Masuda, Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation and acting Maui district manager; as well as Michael Moore, Tim Moore and Rob Aguiar, owners of Nā Hoaloha Ekolu.
