Accessibility repairs and improvements at various parking lots throughout Halekalā National Park is nearing completion, officials said.
Park officials say the Headquarters Visitor Center lot near the 7,000-foot elevation is scheduled to reopen at 6 p.m. today.
The park’s Leleiwi Overlook lot will be closed from today, Aug. 12, 2013, through Wednesday night, Aug. 14, 2013; and the Kalahaku parking lot, the final phase of the project, will be closed from this week Thursday, Aug. 15 at 6:45 a.m., to Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m., according to an NPS announcement.
Park officials say the work is occurring during summer because asphalt must be applied during the warmest, driest time of year.
Motorists can expect heavy construction traffic and delays on Haleakalā Highway and Crater Road through Sept. 2, according to a NPS advisory.
