Maui High Girls Win Division at Preseason Volleyball Tourney

Maui High School girls won the Ho’oikaika Division of the 2013 Maui Volleyball Invitational tournament Saturday, beating Hana in a third-round championship game 26-16, 14-25, 15-12 at Ka’ulaheanuiokamoku Gym.

The Sabers won all three of their matches Saturday, day three of the fourth annual three-day all-girls prep volleyball tournament. Maui High also defeated McKinley, 25-21, 25-8, in round one and Kapolei in round two, 25-16, 11-25, 15-6.

The annual 12-team preseason tournament is hosted by Kamehameha Schools Maui. Highlighting this year’s field were first-time participants Granburry High School from Texas and Laguna Blanca from Santa Barbara, Calif., making its third straight appearance.

In addition to the two mainland schools, Maryknoll, McKinley, Castle and Kapolei from Oahu competed.

Rounding out the field were Maui Interscholastic League schools Seabury Hall, the 2012 Division II state runner-up, and 2012 Division I state qualifier King Kekaulike.

Granbury defeated Seabury Hall on Saturday, 25-13, 25-18, to claim the Ikaika Division. Castle beat Maryknoll for third place, 25-20, 19-25, 15-10.
