Waikapū Brush Fire Burns 7,500 Square Feet

A fire in Waikapū burned an estimated 7,500 square feet of brush before being brought under control early this morning, fire officials said.

The incident was reported at 2:51 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, on the mauka side of the Honoapiʻilani Highway across from the Waikapū On 30 Restaurant, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Fire officials say crews responding to the scene included Engine-1 from Wailuku, and Tanker-10 from Kahului.

According to Fire department reports, the brush fire was called under control at 3:23 a.m., and extinguished at 4:25 a.m.

No damages or injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was undetermined after the investigation, said FS Chief Mainaga.

A separate fire occurred near the location at 10:57 p.m. on June 13, 2013.  That earlier incident was identified as a suspicious fire, and was located on the opposite side of the road and south of the restaurant.
