By Wendy Osher
The search resumes at first light today for a hiker reported missing yesterday at Haleakalā Crater, officials said.
The 67-year-old man was last seen by his wife on Wednesday morning, Sept. 25, when he left for a hike, but failed to return, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
The search began at 11:22 p.m. on Wednesday.
Firefighters responding to the scene located the man’s car at the 8,000-foot elevation with his cell phone on the front seat, officials said.
Authorities say the missing man is a frequent visitor to the park, and is familiar with the area.
