Central Maui Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan Presentation
By Maui Now Staff
A Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan for Central Maui will be presented to the public later this month.
“The master plan was completed in 2012 as part of the Healthy Hawaiʻi Initiative’s efforts to encourage walking and bicycling in Central Maui communities,” a county announcement said.
The plan was reportedly based on a set of design principles that included the, “promotion of safe access for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and public transportation users of all ages and abilities.”
The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Lihikai School Cafeteria in Kahului.
The meeting is hosted by the Maui County Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition and Maui Council Member Don Guzman, in cooperation with the YMCA’s Pioneering Healthier Communities project, and the County of Maui Department of Public Works.
Event partners plan to give away two bikes with helmets to children in attendance, according to the meeting announcement.
