A grand opening ceremony will be held for the new Veterans Club at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.
School officials say the facility is the first center dedicated to veterans in the 10 campus UH system.
“We are excited to finally have a center dedicated to the education and future endeavors of the men and women who bravely served their country as soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines,” said Cody Snyder, president of the UH Maui Military Veterans Club, in a press release statement.
“Veterans can come together and work as a collective to support each person’s overall success in education and work study,” said Snyder.
The grand opening celebration comes just days ahead of Veterans Day, which is observed on Monday, Nov. 11, this year.
The Veterans Resource Center is located at the Annex building on the east side of campus, and offers student veterans a location to study, get tutoring and counseling, and relax.
It was built with the help the Schwab Charitable Fund, and a grant from The Home Depot Foundation.
Dignitaries scheduled to attend the event include Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa, UHMC Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs John McKee, members of the UHMC Veterans Club, and the HP Baldwin High School Army JROTC.
The blessing ceremony will be led by Kimokeo Kapahulehua with Hui O Wa’a Kaulua.
