A 56-year-old woman was airlifted from Puʻuōlaʻi in South Maui on Sunday after reports that she was unable to make her way down from the hill, officials said.

The incident was reported just after 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, in the area of Mākena Beach.

The visitor, from Cincinnati, Ohio, reportedly slipped and sustained minor injuries to her hip and legs during the incident, and also complained of exhaustion, according to Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Officials say the woman was airlifted to a secure landing zone, but refused medical transport to the hospital.

Crews responding to the scene included the Maui Fire Department’s ladder crew from Wailea, and Rescue 10 from Kahului.
