14th Annual Health Fair For the Homeless

The Salvation Army on Maui hosts a Health Fair for the Homeless this Friday, Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their Kahului offices on West Kamehameha Avenue.

The 14th annual event is held in partnership with the students from the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College, Associate Degree in Nursing program; and The Hoʻomana Foundation.

The event coincides with National Homelessness Awareness Week, which is observed from November 17 to 23, 2013.

The Health Fair will offer free health information and screening to Maui’s homeless population, including: blood glucose testing, blood pressure reading, flu vaccines, diabetes awareness, domestic violence prevention, safety assessment, substance abuse awareness, and wound care.

Participating health care resource agencies include: A Cup of Cold Water Community Care Van; Alcoholics Anonymous; American Red Cross; Catholic Charities; the Department of Health HIV and STD Hepatitis Prevention Office; Department of Veteran Affairs; Division of Vocational Rehabilitation; Family Life Center; Hawaii Department of Health Emergency Preparedness branch; Hawaiʻi Health Connector; Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center; Labor Ready; Legal Aid Society of Hawaiʻi Maui Branch; Mālama ʻIke Ola Health Center; Maui Economic Opportunity; Maui Aids Foundation; Maui Farm Union United; Maui Food Bank; Maui Mental Health Advocates; Maui Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Survivor Services; Maui Youth and Family Services, Homeless Youth Outreach Counselor; Med Quest; Mental Health Kōkua; UHMC Dental Hygiene Students; UHMC Health Center; and Women Helping Women.
