This Friday, Nov. 29 – aka “the day after Thanksgiving” and/or “Black Friday” – decompress from battling crowds for discount TVs and toys with Maui OnStage’s performance of the holiday classic, “Scrooge: The Musical.”

The book, music and lyrics are by Leslie Bricusse and this version is directed by Ricky Jones, under the musical direction of Steven Dascoulias and choreographed by Erin Kowalick.

This musical telling of “A Christmas Carol” is based on the 1970 Albert Finney film.

The plot is likely familiar, with the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge undergoing a profound experience of redemption over the course of a Christmas Eve night, after being visited by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

Then, on Monday, Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Maui OnStage continues its monthly free theater series ONO! with “Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some)” by Michael Carlton, Jim FitzGerald and John K. Alvarez.

“Every Christmas Story …” is a ridiculously silly send up of everything from Rankin Bass puppetoons to the Grinch, Scrooge and “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
