Man Airlifted After Falling From Horse in Kanaio

A 64-year-old man was airlifted from a remote area of Kanaio after falling off of his horse in a remote area of the Piʻilani Highway over the weekend.

The incident was reported at 4:35 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, approximately 1 mile down an unimproved road makai of the highway between mile post 17 and 18, fire officials said.

Firefighters from Kula and a rescue company from Kahului packaged and hauled the man to a landing zone on the highway, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

According to FS Chief Mainana, the man sustained a laceration to his head in the fall and complained of back pain.

He was transported in stable condition by medics to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment, according to department reports.
