Maui Athletes Invited to Hard Naks Season 3
By Rodney S. Yap
Hard Naks Season 3 starts Saturday, Dec. 14, at Maui Tropical Plantation.
Maui athletes looking to get fit, get fast and have fun can train with Cody Nakamura, who introduced Hard Naks High Performance Speed Camps two years ago to youth and high school athletes on the Valley Isle.
Boys and girls are invited to train with Nakamura and his team of former college football players from the Maui Interscholastic League.
Nakamura starts with basic speed, agility, balance and core drills. “And as we go I will introduce things like parachutes, sleds, resistance and assistance bands… progressing with the workouts we do,” he said.
Every Saturday through the start of the MIL football season in late August, Hard Naks will be at Maui Tropical Plantation.
Camps are separated by age groups: Elementary School (5 to 10 years old), from 8 to 9 a.m.; Intermediate School (11-13 years old), 9 to 10:30 am; and High School (14-18 years old), from 10:30 to noon.
The cost for the camp is $10 (cash only) and participants are encouraged to come 15 to 20 minutes before the scheduled start time to register.
Nakamura is a former multi-sport athlete at Baldwin who later developed into Big Sky All-Conference Third Team All-American tight end at Weber State.
Nakamura graduated from Weber in 2010. He is currently majority owner of Yogurtland in Kaahumanu Center and was the rookie (varsity) head football coach at Kamehameha Schools Maui in 2013.
Hard Naks assistant trainers include:
Kawika Kahui, Baldwin 2002, San Diego State, football
