Hawaiʻi Sex Offender Search Now Available Via Mobile App

The public can now access information contained in Hawaii’s Sex Offender Registry via mobile app on Android and Apple devices.

The app enables users to search the Hawaiʻi Criminal Justice Data Center’s data base for the names, residences, and business addresses of offenders.

The app was launched on Jan. 8, 2014 by the state Department of the Attorney General in collaboration with the Hawaiʻi Criminal Justice Data Center, the Hawaiʻi State Office of Information Management and Technology, and Hawaiʻi Information Consortium, LLC.

The Hawaiʻi Sex Offender Search is a free mobile application that is offered in addition to an already established online directory of registered offenders.

Hawaiʻi Attorney General David M. Louie explained in an agency press release that “this new app will further enhance the public’s ability to access important information concerning the presence of sex offenders in their communities.”

Officials say public access to the information is “based solely on the fact of each offender’s criminal conviction and is not based on an estimate of the offender’s level of dangerousness.”
