North Shore Surf Forecast at 21-28 Feet

A high surf warning remains in effect for the north and west facing shores of Molokaʻi and the north facing shores of Maui until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, according to an updated forecast from the National Weather Service.

The NWS expects surf to be in the 21 to 28 foot range along the north facing shores, and 15 to 22 feet along affected west shores.

The agency warns that these conditions will result in breaking waves, strong rip currents, and hazardous conditions.  The conditions will also make navigating harbor channels dangerous.

The swell first arrived in the islands on Saturday when forecasters had projected “extra-large to giant surf” generated by a strong low northwest of the state.

There is also a small craft advisory in effect for Maui County windward waters, as well as the ʻAlenuihāhā Channel between Maui and Hawaiʻi Island until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.

The National Weather Service is forecasting north to northwest winds of 10 to 20 knots and rough seas of 7 to 14 feet in affected areas.
