The National Weather Service has issued a small craft advisory for the ʻAlenuihāhā Channel between Hawaiʻi Island and Maui until 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014.

The agency is forecasting hazardous conditions generated by strong northeasterly winds beginning late Wednesday morning, and continuing through Thursday.

The NWS forecast calls for northeast winds blowing at 20 to 25 knots and rough seas of 8 to 11 feet.

“Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions,” the forecast stated.
