UPDATE: Wākea Water Main Break

Water Main Break Wākea Avenue, Kahului

Wākea Avenue between Molokaʻi Hema Street and Niʻihau Street in Kahului remains closed due to a water main break.
The break was discovered late on Thursday afternoon, and also resulted in water outages for area residents.
Water officials say service was restored at approximately 3 a.m. on Friday, March 14, to affected customers; however, Wākea Avenue from South Kamehameha to Lono, and Niʻihau Street from from Wākea to Mōʻali are still closed as DWS personnel working to complete road repairs.
Water officials say the roads should reopen by 10:30 a.m.

The Maui Department of Water Supply continues work this hour to repair a 12-inch main line break at the intersection of Wakea Ave and Niihau St in Kahului. The intersection is closed at this time so motorists must use alternate routes. The break was discovered late on Thursday afternoon. Customers on Wakea Ave from South Kamehameha Ave to Lono Ave, and customers on Niihau St from Lono Ave to Moali St will have no water until approximately 3 a.m. Friday, when the repair is expected to be completed, water officials said. When water service is restored, customers may want to flush their waterlines to ensure no sediment has built up in their lines. Customers should call the Department’s service number at (808) 270-7633 for emergencies only.

Wākea Avenue in Kahului was closed at 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014, between Molokaʻi Hema and Lono Avenue due to a water main break. Motorists should avoid the area and take alternate routes while repairs are underway. There was no estimated time on when the section of road would be reopened.
Honoapiʻilani Traffic Accident at Launiupoko

Motorists traveling to or from Lahaina can expect delays due to a motor vehicle accident reported at shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014, along the Honoapiʻilani Highway near Launiupoko Beach Park.
The vehicle involved in the crash was off to the side on the mauka side of the roadway. A utility pole stuck during the incident was damaged.
The road remains open, but a temporary contraflow was put into place by Maui police.
The contraflow was lifted at around 4:07 p.m.
