Fire Causes $30,000 in Damage to Wailea Ekolu Home

A two-story home in Wailea sustained $30,000 in damage from a fire reported on Friday afternoon, March 14, 2014.

Firefighters were dispatched to the home located at 3849 Wailea Ekolu Place at around 12:23 p.m., according to department reports.

When units from Engine-14 out of Wailea arrived on scene, they found smoke showing.  They made access to the home through an open side door into a laundry room where flames were observed rolling over the ceiling and cabinets, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

The fire was brought under control by 12:37 p.m., and extinguished by 3:47 p.m., fire officials said.

No injuries were reported and no there was no one living in the home, according to department officials.

FS Chief Mainaga said the cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation.
