An overdue hunter on Lānaʻi was found safe and in good health on Sunday evening after a day of hunting in the Mahana area, fire officials said.

A land and air search was launched at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, after the 51-year-old man failed to meet the rest of his party as planned at around noon, according to department reports.

Fire crews from Engine-8, Rescue-10, and Air-1 were dispatched to the scene, located approximately four miles east of Lānaʻi City, off of the Keomoku Highway.

Crews were conducting the search when the hunter walked out on his own, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.  The man was in excellent condition with no reported injuries, and was unaware that people were looking for him, said FS Chief Mainaga.
