The public is invited to a meeting to discuss a noise variance for a capital improvement project in Pāʻia, that is aimed at improving the area’s water system.

The Maui Department of Water Supply will join contractor Alpha Inc. in hosting the meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the Pāʻia Community Center.

Department officials say the state Department of Health requires a noise variance permit because the work, which extends from Kupono Street to the Kūʻau area, will be performed at night when traffic is reduced.

The project involves the transfer of water services from an old six-inch line that is subject to frequent breaks, to an existing 12-inch line.

Department officials are encouraging area residents and business owners to attend the meeting.
