The Hyundai Tournament of Champions raised a total of $333,185 for Maui charities during the 2014 event held in January at the The Plantation Course in Kapalua, according to a PGA TOUR press release announcement.

Primary beneficiaries this year included the Boy Scouts of America, Maui County Council, the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, Hale Makua Health Services, the J Walter Cameron Center, Ka Lima O Maui, and the Lahainaluna High School Foundation, PGA TOUR officials announced.

The organizations are credited with assisting in the promotion of the event, offsetting costs, and providing volunteers.

Donations were also made to the Hawaiʻi State Junior Golf Association and Maui Junior Golf programs for “promoting and growing the game of golf among Hawaii’s youth.”

Other non-profit groups raised funds through the tournament’s Golf for Maui Charities program, which provided an opportunity for the groups to receive 100% of the net proceeds from their own promotion of the tournament and ticket sales.

The groups participating and benefiting from the Golf for Maui Charities program in 2014 included: Hale Makua Health Services; Chaplains for Christ International; the Pāʻia Youth & Cultural Center; Maui Preparatory Academy; Maria Lanakila Church; Hale Kau Kau; Sacred Heart School; and Lahainaluna High School.

Another fundraising arm of the tournament was the Hyundai Hope On Wheels event that awarded a $75,000 Hyundai Scholar Grant to pediatric cancer programs at the Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women and Children. The funds were raised through a second annual 5K run and walk held during the tournament week.

Next year’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions is scheduled to take place from Jan. 8 to 12, 2015.
