UPDATE: Kahului Residents Evacuated from Molokaʻi-Hema Street

Maui police say the cause of a street closure and evacuation of homes in a Kahului neighborhood on Wednesday was due to a terroristic threatening case involving a caller reporting unexploded ordnance within a home on Molokaʻi-Hema Street.

According to police reports, a caller reported the terroristic threatening incident at 3:34 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

Police evacuated residents and closed surrounding streets to traffic on Molokaʻi-Hema Street from an area south of Hina Avenue in the vacinity of Lāʻau Street.

According to Maui Police Officer Edith Quintero, TSA responded with their bomb canines, which resulted in negative findings for explosives.

Police say the investigation revealed no direct threat was made between the male and the caller.

The streets  were re-opened at 6:20 p.m. and no arrest or charges made regarding the incident.

Maui police have blocked off a section of Molokaʻi-Hema Street in Kahului and are evacuating residents from an area south of Hina Avenue in the vacinity of Lāʻau Street.

Maui police have yet to release details on the incident.
