Police Investigating Disappearance of Camper at Kaupo

Maui police are investigating the disappearance of a man camping at “Plenty Keawe” in Kaupo.

John Flavin, 44, was last seen sleeping in his vehicle at the campsite, say police. Friends camping with Flavin noticed him missing around 9 a.m., July 4, with his vehicle left at the site but no signs of the man.

Police were assigned to the area on July 4 at 2:56 p.m. Police, fire fighters and Air 1 Rescue searched the area but were unable to locate him, officials say.

The Criminal Investigation Division is conducting an investigation into the incident, with an all-points bulletin issued for John Flavin.

The public is asked to call police dispatch at 244-6400 or Detective Dennis Lee at 244-6425 (Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) with any information about the missing man.

Flavin is described as a Caucasian male weighing 190 pounds, 5’8″ in height, with hazel eyes and brown hair. He was last wearing a dark colored t-shirt and tan shorts. His last known address was in Kula.
