Maui Electric Responds to Storm Related Outages

Crews from Maui Electric Company worked throughout the day to restore power lost during inclement weather conditions associated with the remnants of storm Wali.

The largest outage was reported in the Haʻikū area at around 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 20, when a tree fell and broke a pole on West Kuiaha Road.

Maui Electric says the incident knocked out power to an estimated 1,322 customers. Crews replaced the pole and restored power to a majority of customers by 8 a.m., with full restoration reported at 1:50 p.m.

Another outage, reported at 7:20 a.m. in Pāʻia was caused when a tree fell and broke a cross arm on a pole on Baldwin Avenue, a company spokesperson said.

The incident knocked out power to an estimated 450 customers, according to company reports.  A company spokesperson said power was restored to a majority of customers by 9:15 a.m., with all customers brought back up to power at 12:30 p.m., after the cross arm was replaced.

Other areas that experienced weather-related pocket outages earlier in the day included ʻĪao and parts of Wailuku and Makawao.

Power has since been restored to those areas.
