Election Day Tips and Reminders for Hawaiʻi Voters

The state Office of Elections issued a reminder today to assist voters as they make their way to the polls on Saturday, August 9, for the primary election.

Elections officials issued the following list of election day reminders and tips:

• Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014. Anyone in line at 6 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
• Save time by voting during non-peak hours: in the morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m., or in the afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m.
• Know your polling place. Contact your County Clerk’s office or visit www.hawaii.gov/elections and utilize the Polling Place Locator to find your polling place.  Maui Now also has a polling place locator located in the Election tab of our main page.
• Be prepared to provide proof of identification. Forms of acceptable ID include a valid photo ID, copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, or other government issued document that shows your name and address.

Helpful tips:

• Sample ballots are available to view at the State Office of Elections website. Simply enter your name and date of birth and your polling place information and sample ballot will be provided.
• Early Walk-in Voting Locations will be open until Thursday, August 7 for all registered voters who want to vote early.  Early voting for Maui residents is available at the County Clerk’s office on High Street in Wailuku from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.  On Molokaʻi, voters can participate in early walk-in voting at the DAGS Building 1 meeting room on Mākena Place in Kaunakakai between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.  The location is closed for an hour during lunch from noon to 1 p.m. on weekdays.
• Vote-by-mail voters have until 6 p.m. on Election Day to submit their voted ballot to any polling place within their county. A voted ballot postmarked on Election Day, but not received by the Clerk’s office by 6 p.m. will not be accepted.
