An Arkansas woman died after she was found unresponsive while snorkeling in Maui County waters on Monday, Sept. 8, police said.

Maui police have since identified the woman as Jane Dorn, 58, of Alexander, Arkansas.

According to police reports, Dorn was a guest aboard the Pacific Whale Foundation “Discovery” snorkel cruise.

Police say she was brought back on board the vessel where cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated.

According to police reports, Dorn was then taken to Mānele Harbor on Lānaʻi, where Lānaʻi Patrol Officers were called to the scene at around 10:35 a.m.

Police say that despite live-saving efforts, Dorn was later pronounced dead.

Maui Police Sergeant Audra Sellers released information this afternoon saying the cause of death has not been determined and is pending autopsy results.

The case is currently classified as a miscellaneous accident.
