Maui Cops Hope to Raise Funds and Awareness for Special Olympics

The 13th annual Cop on Top fundraiser for Special Olympics starts today and continues through Saturday, Sept. 27th.
Law enforcement officers on Maui climbed atop Wallmart in Kahului where they will camp on the roof and seek donations to assist more than 200 local athletes in the program.
Since 2001, Cop on Top has raised more than $2.2 million to benefit Special Olympics Hawai’i statewide, according to organization leaders.
The money raised stays in the islands and helps to fund the programs that allow athletes to compete year round, free of charge.

On Oʻahu and Kauaʻi, the fundraiser was held last month from Aug. 28 to 30 at Walmart, Sam’s Club, the Kāneʻohe Bay Shopping Center and the Aikahi Shopping Center.
Joining Maui this week is Hawaiʻi Island, with the fundraiser also being held at Walmart stores.
“This is the fourth year we have hosted Cop on Top at our Hawaiʻi stores and we are thrilled to welcome everyone back for another great year,” said Rey Armijo, Walmart Hawaiʻi Market Manager in a joint press release.
“Cop on Top is an event we are incredibly honored to be a part of and support, providing a venue for these selfless law enforcement officers and helping to raise funds for these inspiring athletes,” said Armijo.
Nancy Bottelo, Special Olympics Hawaiʻi president and CEO also commented saying, “The generosity and support the community has shown towards Cop on Top is inspiring and I would encourage everyone to come down again this year and show your support for our officers and athletes.”
