Maui firefighters battled a small brush fire near an old cemetery in Kūʻau on Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 5:17 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014 at an area near Tavares Bay, off of Kūʻau Beach Place.

Fire officials say crews arrived on scene to find an area of cane grass and light shrub brush burning in an open field.

The brush fire burned an area approximately 30 feet by 50 feet, and did not pose a threat to structures in the area, according to department reports.

The fire was brought under control by 5:35 p.m., and was called extinguished at 6:10 p.m.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire was undetermined after investigation with no injuries or damages reported.
