Maui Fair Kicks off With Parade: Road Closure Information

Today is opening day of the 92nd Maui Fair.  The event kicks off with a parade down Kaʻahumanu Avenue that will result in the closure of Kaʻahumanu and Kanaloa Avenues along the parade route from 4:15 in the afternoon through around 6 p.m. when the gates open to the fair grounds.

Entertainment tonight includes Zenshin Daiko, a Hawaiian Immersion group from Kalama, the Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel Kupanaha Magic Show, Mele Pono, and Hypnotist James Kellogg.

Park and ride shuttles are also available free of charge during fair hours from the UHMC soccer fields and Keōpūolani Park in Kahului, and from the Maui County Building parking lot and Wells Park parking lot in Wailuku.

The Maui Bus commuter parking has also been moved during Maui Fair week.  Details are available at the following LINK.

The fair grounds will be open from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2; 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Oct. 3; 10 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, Oct. 4; and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014.

Admission is $7 for adults; $3 for keiki 5 to 11 years old; and free for kids 4 years and younger.  Cost of admission on Sunday, Oct. 5 is reduced to $5 for adults and $2 for kids 5 to 11 years old.

Road Closures:

Monday, Sept. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014: Complete Closure of Haliʻa Nakoa Street and Football Stadium parking lot

The following closures will begin at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014:

  • Wailuku bound lanes of Kaʻahumanu Avenue from the intersection of Kahului Beach Road to Kanaloa Avenue.
  • Pāʻia bound lanes of Kaʻahumanu Avenue, from the intersection of South Papa Avenue to Wākea Avenue.
  • All lanes of Kanaloa Avenue from the intersection of Kaʻahumanu Avenue to Keōpūolani Park (Park Drive).

Re-opening of the above roads will be completed by 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014.

Traffic and Diversion rerouting plan:

  • Intersection of Kaʻahumanu Avenue at Kahului Beach Road/Kāne Street
    • Wailuku bound traffic on Kaʻahumanu Avenue will be diverted onto Kahului Beach Road or may turn left onto Kāne Street.
    • Kīhei bound traffic on Kahului Beach Road will be prevented from turning right (Wailuku direction) onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue.Traffic will be permitted to turn left (Pāʻia direction) onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue or travel straight ahead (Kīhei direction) onto Kāne Street.
    • Waiheʻe bound traffic on Kāne Street will be prevented from turningleft (Wailuku bound on Kaʻahumanu Avenue. Traffic will be permitted to continue straight onto Kahului Beach Road or turn right (Pāʻia bound) onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue.
  • Kaʻahumanu Avenue at the entrance to Queen Kaʻahumanu Center
    • Pāʻia bound traffic (from Wakea Avenue) on Kaʻahumanu Avenue will be allowed to enter the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center or continue in the Pāʻia direction.
    • Vehicular traffic exiting the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center will be prevented from turning left (Wailuku direction) onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue, and will be diverted right (Pāʻia direction) onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue.
  • Intersection of Kaʻahumanu Avenue at Wakea Avenue
    • Waiheʻe bound traffic on Wakea Avenue will be prevented from turning left (Wailuku direction) onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue or traveling straight into the University of Hawaiʻi Maui campus. All traffic will be diverted right (Pāʻia direction) onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue.
  • Intersection of Kaʻahumanu Avenue at South Papa Avenue
    • Waiheʻe bound traffic on South Papa Avenue will be prevented from traveling onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue. This traffic will be diverted right (Pāʻia direction) onto One Street.
  • Intersection of Kaʻahumanu Avenue at Mahalani Street/Kanaloa Avenue
    • Waiheʻe bound traffic on Mahalani Street will be prevented from turning left (Wailuku direction) onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue or continuing straight (Waiheʻe direction) onto Kanaloa Avenue. All traffic will be diverted in the right (Pāʻia direction) onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue.
    • Pāʻia bound traffic on Kaʻahumanu Avenue will be allowed through the intersection, but will be diverted right onto South Papa Avenue (Kīhei direction). This traffic will also be prevented from turning left onto Kanaloa Avenue.
