Meeting to Focus on Feral Cat Study of Kanahā and ʻĪao

Initial research findings on community cats will be discussed during an upcoming meeting hosted by the Maui Humane Society.

The agency in conjunction with the Humane Society of the US will present findings as part of a partnership to identify solutions to reducing the number of free roaming and feral animals in the community.

Dr. John Hadidian and Dr. John Boone will present results of a report on cat population research conducted at Kanahā State Park and ʻĪao Valley.

The presentation will include discussion on challenges and opportunities on how best to humanely and effectively reduce free-roaming cat populations.

The agency will also engage the public in an effort to find solutions.

Members of the Maui County Animal Coalition, including the Maui SPCA and Feline Foundation of Maui, will be on hand to discuss their ongoing efforts and services.

Presentation will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct, 14, 2014, at the Kīhei Community Center, located at 303 E. Līpoa Street in South Maui.

The public is invited to come, bring questions and suggestions, and learn how all Maui residents can best work together to protect all animals.
