Maui Man Medevaced to Oʻahu After Motorcycle Accident

A Maui man was medevaced to Oʻahu for treatment today after sustaining severe injuries in a motorcycle accident overnight.

The Maui Memorial Medical Center requested the assistance of the US Coast Guard in Honolulu, regarding the transport of the 37-year-old man.

Coast Guard officials say a flight surgeon was briefed and recommended a medevac based on the patient’s condition.

The agency launched an HC-130 Hercules aircraft at around 6:40 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, from Air Station Barbers Point, and partnered with a two-person Disaster Medical Assistance Team from Oʻahu who provided in-flight care.

According to the Coast Guard, the patient was safely transferred to awaiting EMS at Air Station Barbers Point at approximately 8:45 a.m.   Authorities say the patient’s condition is not known.

In an agency press release, HC-130 pilot Lieutenant Commander Garrett Faulkner with the US Coast Guard said, “This mission truly demonstrates the flexibility and professionalism of Coast Guard aircrews who are ready to respond to any call for assistance.  In partnering with medical professionals, we were able to quickly provide coordinated medical assistance to an individual in need.”
