Water Outage at Haleakalā Caused by Main Break

***UPDATE: 2:34 p.m. 10/8/14: The broken water main has been fixed. All restrooms are open and potable water is available.

Parts of Haleakalā are without water this afternoon due to a water main break reported in the Summit District.

The break occurred at the 7,200 foot elevation, resulting in a water outage for drinking and restrooms for all areas below that for the remainder of the day.

The affected visitor areas include Headquarters Visitor Center, which will be without potable water and toilets; and the Hosmer Grove Campground, which will be without potable water.

The closest restrooms to the Headquarters Visitor Center are vault toilets at Hosmer Grove, which is located just after the park entrance; and the vault toilets at Halemauʻu Trailhead, at the 8,000 foot elevation.

There are still restrooms and potable water at Haleakalā Visitor Center, at the 9741 foot elevation.
