TSA Finds Unloaded Cannon Barrel in Luggage at Kahului Airport
By Wendy Osher
The Transportation Security Administration discovered an unloaded cannon barrel in the luggage of a passenger traveling through Kahului Airport, according information released by the agency.
The incident was included in the weekly blog entry posted on the agency’s website for the week ending on Oct. 24, 2014.
According to the agency publication, the cannon barrel was discovered in a passenger’s checked items, and was unloaded.
TSA officials say you can add it to the “items we don’t see every day” category. According to the TSA blog, officers had seen cannonballs in the past at other airports, but this is the first cannon that they can recall.
According to the website, the information provided, including weekly highlights from airports across the nation, is shared in an effort to facilitate an ongoing dialogue on innovations in security, technology and the checkpoint screening process.
Over the course of a week, TSA workers across the nation discovered 51 firearms at various airports across the country–39 that were loaded, and 13 that had rounds chambered, the agency blog stated.
