While prices were below $4 in Honolulu ($3.86) and Hilo ($3.92), the average price of gas in Wailuku was $4.24 a gallon, down 4 cents from last week, down 12 cents from last month, and up 7 cents from the same time last year, according to the report.
“Global oil prices continued to rapidly decline helping Hawaiʻi motorists at the retail pump again this week,” said AAA Hawaiʻi General Manager Liane Sumida in a press release statement. “State average prices around the country continue to slide with: Alaska at $3.62 a gallon, California at $3.13 and Oregon at $3.07. Many states show averages in the high $2 a gallon range,” she said.
According to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch, the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas in Hawaiʻi was $3.975, about a dollar more than the national average of $2.917.
