Body Found on Hawaiʻi Island Could be Missing Hiker

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating whether a body found in Waipiʻo Valley on Sunday, Nov. 30, is a 22-year-old hiker who was reported missing on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, officials said.

Police say Lindsey Nickerson of Kailua-Kona was last seen Saturday afternoon when she got separated from a tour group of 25 individuals during a hike in Waipiʻo Valley.

According to department reports, Fire personnel searching for the missing hiker reported that they found a female body near the Tea House after locating the missing hiker’s belongings near the Hiʻilawe River at around 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Authorities are currently working to make a positive identification of the body.

Police say they do not suspect foul play.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
