Virginia Man Dies After Snorkeling Incident off Maui

A 39-year-old Virginia man died after running into difficulty breathing while snorkeling in waters off of Maui on Christmas Day.

Police say the US Coast Guard and Medics were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive man aboard a boat headed to Māʻalaea Harbor at around 12:13 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014.

According to police reports, an investigation revealed that the man, later identified as Dan Tuma, was snorkeling with a family member, when he had difficulty breathing.

Police say Tuma became unresponsive and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered.

Despite all life saving measures the man died.  The cause of death and autopsy are pending.
